V-OG04 Paravertebral Catheter Placement In Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomy

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Background Pain control is a vital component of enhanced recovery programmes for patients undergoing an oesophagectomy. Multimodal analgesia using intrathecal diamorphine and local anaesthetic infusion catheters into the paravertebral space rectus sheath increasingly utilised. can provide comparable pain relief while potentially reducing side effects associated with thoracic epidurals. This video demonstrates placement following thoracoscopic Methods The technique catheter at end phase oesophagectomy, as practiced our institution. Results Once has been placed flushed, bolus 15-20mls 0.25 per cent Levobupivicaine injected. A 600mls reservoir attached procedure. Conclusions Paravertebral safe feasible option

Ultrasound guided paravertebral catheter placement and potential future improvements

A patient suffering with traumatic injuries including multiple rib fractures was excessively narcotized potentially impeding her recovery. A continuous infusion of local anaesthetic into the paravertebral space provided some opioid sparing effect, although the analgesic effect was less clear. The catheter was placed into the paravertebral space using a through-needle technique with ultrasound g...

Comparing open and minimally invasive surgical procedures for oesophagectomy in the treatment of cancer: the ROMIO (Randomised Oesophagectomy: Minimally Invasive or Open) feasibility study and pilot trial.

BACKGROUND Localised oesophageal cancer can be curatively treated with surgery (oesophagectomy) but the procedure is complex with a risk of complications, negative effects on quality of life and a recovery period of 6-9 months. Minimal-access surgery may accelerate recovery. OBJECTIVES The ROMIO (Randomised Oesophagectomy: Minimally Invasive or Open) study aimed to establish the feasibility o...

Initial experience with percutaneous coronary sinus catheter placement in minimally invasive cardiac surgery in an academic center

BACKGROUND Placement of a percutaneous coronary sinus catheter (CSC) by an anesthesiologist for retrograde cardioplegia in minimally invasive cardiac surgery is relatively safe in experienced hands. However, the popularity of its placement remains limited to a small number of centers due to its perceived complexity and potential complications. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed all cardiac c...

Demonstration of the IDEAL recommendations for evaluating and reporting surgical innovation in minimally invasive oesophagectomy.

BACKGROUND The Idea, Development, Evaluation, Assessment and Long term study (IDEAL) framework makes recommendations for evaluating and reporting surgical innovation and adoption, but remains untested. METHODS A prospective database was created for the introduction of minimally invasive techniques for oesophagectomy. IDEAL stages of development and evaluation were examined retrospectively in ...

Minimally invasive fluoroscopic percutaneous peritoneal dialysis catheter salvage

BACKGROUND Peritoneal dialysis catheter (PDC) dysfunction can often be treated fluoroscopically by manipulation with wire, balloon or stiff stylet, saving surgical intervention for refractory cases. We describe an enhanced percutaneous approach to PDC salvage that can lead to a more definitive intervention and salvage for cases refractory to fluoroscopic manipulation. METHODS In five cases of...
